How To Make Pizza Crust At Home
Would you like to know how to make pizza crust? It's just takes a few basic steps and ingredients. Here's how.
The first thing you'll need is a recipe. They are very easy to find on the Internet. Look for a simple one with the most often used ingredients: flour, water, salt, oil and yeast. That's all you really need to make a great pizza crust.
Before we start, we should mention a good cooking habit to get into. Measure out and assemble all your recipe ingredients before you start. That way the whole mixing procedure can go very quickly and without stopping.
Add all the dry ingredients to a medium size bowl and mix them together really well. Next add the water which should be at or near a temperature of 105 degrees, the optimum for the yeast to do its thing.
You'll need a stout spoon or other utensil to combine the ingredients as it gets stiff quickly. Once you have the first ingredients mixed, add the oil. Stir again until everything is incorporated.
It's a good idea to go ahead and measure out a small amount of flour at this point and put it near your work area. It will be needed soon to prevent the dough from sticking to everything including you. Put the dough on a floured board or counter top and get ready to knead.
A good method of kneading is to push the dough down and away from you. Then fold the dough back over itself, turn it 90 degrees and push it down and away again. Repeat this again and again for about 5 minutes. When the dough ball starts to look smooth and shiny and seems very elastic, you're done.
Now place the dough ball into an oiled bowl and roll it around to coat with the oil. Cover with plastic wrap and set it in a warm place for about two hours. When it doubles in size it's ready to work some more.
Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface again and flatten and shape it some with your hands. Begin rolling it out with a rolling pin until you get the thickness you want. Many people prefer a 1/8" thickness.
When done, carefully pick it up and place it in your baking pan. You can now trim the dough where needed to fit your pan. Form an edge around the lip of the pizza if you like. Some people like this, others don't. It's your pizza, do what you want.
And to think you asked how to make a pizza crust! You've now got one right in front of you!
